here to serve the community

AS OF THE 3rd APRIL, MILTON KEYNES COUNCIL WILL NO LONGER COLLECT THE GREEN BIN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, IN RESPONSE TO STAFF SHORTAGE CAUSED BY CORONA VIRUS.

WITH THIS POST, THE PARISH COUNCIL AIMS TO PROVIDE GUIDANCE ON HOW TO EFFECTIVELY MANAGE GREEN AND FOOD WASTE DURING THIS TIME TO AVOID LITTER SPREAD AND PEST ISSUES.

GARDEN WASTE
Garden waste (grass clippings, brash, etc.) can all be composted. We suggest a reduction in grass cutting and to avoid pruning shrubs until the green bin collection service is resumed. Gardens might display a bit of a wilder look for a little while, which if anything would benefit wildlife –something that we can all put up with, for a little while.

THIS IS WHAT CAN GO IN YOUR GARDEN COMPOST (if you have it or wish to organise one)

• Grass cuttings
• Weeds
• Uncooked fruit and vegetable peelings
• Tea bags (Many teabags contain small quantities of plastic. Ideally empty bags first and use only the leaves on the compost.)
• Tea leaves and coffee grounds
• Soft green prunings
• Tough hedge clippings
• Woody prunings
• Old bedding plants
• Straw

THIS IS WHAT MUST NOT GO IN YOUR GARDEN COMPOST

• Meat, fish, dairy products or cooked food
• Coal & coke ash
• Cat litter
• Dog faeces
• Disposable nappies

FOR THE TIME BEING, THE ABOVE CATEGORIES OF FOOD WASTE (Meat, fish, dairy products or cooked food) WILL HAVE TO BE PLACED IN THE BLACK BAG.
PLEASE PLACE THE BLACK BAG OUTSIDE THE HOUSE COLLECTION EARLY ON MONDAY MORNING (NOT ON SUNDAY EVENING), TO PREVENT DOMESTIC PETS AND WILDLIFE FROM RAVAGING THROUGH FOOD WASTE OVERNIGHT THEREBY DRIVING LITTER SPREAD AND TRIGGERING UNHYGIENIC CONDITIONS, PARTICULARLY AS THE WEATHER WARMS UP.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO KEEP LAVENDON TIDY, DURING THESE DIFFICULT TIMES.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COOPERATION.
